Hook Entertainment Releases New Statement Regarding Conflict With Lee Seung Gi Over Unpaid Music Profits

Hook Entertainment has responded to Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative saying that the singer has not been paid for his musical releases in the past 18 years.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Lee Seung Gi sent a content certification to his agency Hook Entertainment, requesting transparent payment disclosure. Recently, the agency’s office building was also seized and searched by the Serious Crimes Investigation Division of the National Police Agency due to suspicions of embezzlement by some executives. On November 21, Dispatch released a report claiming that Lee Seung Gi had received no income from his music and that five years of statements from 2004 to 2009 were missing. Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Jin Young briefly replied that they were fact-checking. On November 24, Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative confirmed that Lee Seung Gi was never told about his music benefits and received insults and threats when asking for settlement details.

Additionally, several outlets have raised questions regarding veteran singer Lee Sun Hee’s relationship with Lee Seung Gi’s unfair treatment, as she is listed as the manager of Hook Entertainment.

On November 25, Hook Entertainment shared their stance on the above issues with the following statement:

Hello, this is Hook Entertainment.

First of all, we are ashamed and would like to apologize to everyone for the continuous negative news that has come out recently as well as the current problem between us and Lee Seung Gi. In particular, we would like to express our apologies to Lee Seung Gi who is going through a difficult time because of this.

We would also like to bow our heads and apologize to those who were hurt by CEO Kwon Jin Young’s inappropriate words and actions.

As mentioned earlier in Hook Entertainment’s press release, we were in the process of securing and curating accurate data to meet the content certification we received from Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative. It is unfortunate that the media reports information that has not been accurately verified.

When Hook Entertainment and Lee Seung Gi re-signed an exclusive contract after initially ending our exclusive contract in 2021, both parties checked all the details of the settlement of [Lee Seung Gi’s] career, and we settled the financial relationship between our company and Lee Seung Gi. The two parties also drafted an agreement confirming these facts.

Nevertheless, following Lee Seung Gi’s request, Hook Entertainment is again closely examining with experts the huge amount of profit settlement that Hook Entertainment paid to Lee Seung Gi.

In addition, the report recently released by a certain media outlet regarding the contents of Lee Seung Gi and Hook Entertainment’s contract, such as profit distribution ratio, etc., as well as the report that Hook Entertainment never paid Lee Seung Gi only once for his music earnings. are different from the truth.

Currently, we plan to organize things clearly and to correct and take responsibility for our error if it turns out to be true. As a celebrity management company that should have maintained relationships with its artists based on faith and trust, we once again apologize.

Also, in Lee Sun Hee’s case, because she was an artist who was with Hook Entertainment from the beginning, she was nominally listed as a director as a courtesy, but from 2006 to 2021, Hook Entertainment was a one-man business. 100% owned by Kwon Jin Young, and Lee Sun Hee has never been involved in the company’s management or profit distribution matters.

Along with this, Hook Entertainment also announces that we will not tolerate the act of defaming and harming its artists due to speculations about it and will take legal action through our legal representative.

Thanks.
