Wearing a figure-hugging sheer gown, Rihanna arrived on the champagne-colored Oscars carpet with her baby bump proudly on display – her first high-profile public appearance since last month’s Super Bowl.

The singer, who was nominated in the awards’ Best Original Song category, wore a leather bra and maxi skirt combo by Alaïa, layered over a mesh turtleneck. She completed the eye-catching look with pops of bright red on her lips and nails.

The singer, who is expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, then performed her song “Lift Me Up,” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” after transforming into another Maison Margiela midriff-baring ensemble. The crystal-embellished black bra and floral pants with gold accents were custom-made for her by the label’s creative director, John Galliano, and were complemented by black leather gloves reaching to the elbows.

For her third look of the night, Rihanna opted for a custom mint green bustier and matching skirt from Bottega Veneta. She posed for photos with A$AP Rocky before joining the crowd to watch the rest of the show.

The nominated track, her first single in six years, was also honored at January’s Golden Globe Awards. In both awards, she found herself facing fellow singer Lady Gaga, whose song “Hold My Hand” featured in “Top Gun: Maverick.” The Oscar and the Golden Globe Award finally went to the song “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian film “RRR.

Rihanna revealed her pregnancy during her Super Bowl halftime performance in February. She also wore Alaïa that night, as part of a bespoke all-red ensemble that also included designs by Spanish brand Loewe.

The star helped redefine motherhood fashion, dressing boldly throughout her first pregnancy in crop tops and sheer lace ensembles.

“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m going shopping in the maternity aisle.’ I’m sorry — it’s too much fun to dress up,” she told Vogue for the magazine’s May 2022 cover story. “I’m not going to let that part go away because my body is changing. “

Last week on her Instagram, Rihanna posted a photo of her visibly upset first child with the caption: “My son when he found out his brother was going to the Oscars and not him”, in which a follower commented: “The another brother was able to appear as a special guest at the Super Bowl and now at the OSCARS?”
